Magic Monday: Transformations

If I had a wish--and that wish couldn't be transforming into a wunderkind rock & roll goddess-- I'd wish to be a mermaid.

I'd set up camp at the marina on the shores of Lake Michigan, twist around in the big black waves and play a magically in-tune ukelele on a sunny boulder. The days schedule would include collecting smooth stones, being mesmerised by shafts of shifting green light, talking to the lake and scaring the shit out of the occasional boater.

If you could become any creature, what would you be?

Tell me about your transformation in the comments!

Adventures at Four Leaf

When it's colder outside than most parts of the moon-- we shop. I've been hunting for a nifty old road case to use as a new home for band merch. It was the perfect opportunity to snuffle around at Four Leaf Thrift in Riverwest.

Don't let the postage stamp proportions fool you, this place has everything: rosaries, bowie knives, tie irons, kimonos, piles of vynil, comics, Elvis effigies and the creeptastically excellent bone artwork by the owner, Shawn.

Let's look around...

It was just my luck-- a luscious black trunk with my name on it right inside the door! It was absolutely worth wiping out on the sidewalk and being doused with frozen hot chocolate.

Jump on the facebook page to stay in the loop on  new hauls of treasure.  Pro Tip: this joint is cash and carry!

Where have you been exploring? Is there something you're keeping your eye out for?

Happy Hunting, Kittens.

Costume of The Week: Addiction

I have a sickness: I must cover everything in my life with hot glue.  If you want something, make it.

Once I stumbled across these incredible glasses photographed for Vogue China it was obvious my earthling existence would not be complete without them.

After pilfering my mom's craft room, I assembled a sparkly pile of broken costume jewelry: bits of bracelets, brooches and earrings all limbless and yearning to be fabulous again. Though the source glasses were ungodly glamorous and utterly perfect, I opted for a slightly more wearable scale. (Girl has still gotta go to the grocery store...)

A $3 pair of old pink sunnies from the drawer were up to the challenge and after a little jig-sawing were transported into Elton John Heaven.

The breakdown: DIY Micky Ears (Because I'm a grown up and I do what I want...), resale purple velvet and satin blazer, Black Cherry lipstick by Milani.

What are you wearing this week?

Keep it Fun, Kittens. XO

Magic Monday

This was not my idea. I stole it. Lots of bloggers do it-- but after reading this brilliant muse week after week, I just couldn't help myself. Welcome to Magic Monday! In this segment I'll be sharing inspirations, secrets and treasures to start the week.

Who knows, there might even be some oracular channeling. It depends on my protein intake...

For the first Magic Monday of the year, I wanted to show you my 2014 vision board.

Don't groan.

I know what your thinking. "Blah blah blah dream boards are hippie woo woo..."

You're probably right. But I made one last year, visited it often, held it in my chest and subconscious and guess what?

All of it happened. Bring me all of the woo woo, please.

What wishes are you holding on to? What are you trying to create for yourself?

Sharing is Caring-- I'd love to hear your meows in the comments.

Gallery Night with Third Coast Style

With glittery flakes falling, it was the perfect night to venture out and investigate the delights of gallery night! One of my stops included Third Coast Style. It was a treat to view prints, pour over racks of what Milwaukee's most creative designers have to offer, as well as meet friendly new faces and snoop about the boutique.

Where have you been adventuring?

Dear Milwaukee: You're Not Ugly

Dear Milwaukee,

Some people are running their mouths saying you're ugly this time of year.

I want you to know that I don't believe that. Yes, the strings winking lights have been boxed up and inflatable snowmen stowed away to mildew until next year. It can seem a bit bleak.

But you're in transition. I'd like to see anyone feel pretty in transition. Heck, butterflies spend a majority of their life looking like something an owl barfed up and no one talks shit about them. Metamorphosis is a lot of quiet and sometimes homely work.

Don't be down on yourself. We all go through it.

See, you're powerful and unpredictable in the winter. Some people are afraid of that. I think it's sexy.

And as you shift, I will continue to adore your wind twisted icicle fringe, copacetic fog and otherworldly glaciers gracing the lake. I will be surprised and delighted by your sporadic sneezes of snow, bright moons over the water and sun painted skyline. You look so lovely in the sunset.

In a few short weeks you'll be dressed for spring, and I'll love you then too.

Forever Yours,

15 Ways To Get Inspired Now

The holidays are long gone, winter is in full bore and truthfully, we feel a bit hungover. Maybe
a little motivational malaise or creative constipation? Here are 15 Ways to Get Inspired Now!

1) Pick out a book on your shelf, open it to the middle, put your finger in the center of the page and read the sentence where you've landed. Start writing from there...

2) Walk into a cafe-- perhaps one you've never visited before-- and let the server order for you.

3) Sit at a coffee shop and creep on a stranger. Write down the results.

4) Ask your friends what they are listening to RIGHT NOW. Stereomood is great for this.

5) Wander around the library with no particular treasure in mind. Perusing the "New Arrivals" section is always rewarding.

6) Go to the grocery store and shop for a rainbow meal: red ingredients, orange ingredients, yellow ingredients, and so on.

7) Be a tourist in your city. Visit a neighborhood you've never explored, or document your own neighborhood for alien archeologists.

8) Make room for new ideas by walking through your home with a garbage bag and getting rid of ten things.

9) Rearrange one room of furniture-- even if it doesn't make sense right away. Re imagine your space. There is energy there!

10) Create a collage with magazine clippings about what you want your life to feel like. There is no wrong way to do it!

11) Get a tarot or palm reading. It's not scary--it's enlightening. Try this one!

12) Take a little trip-- across the street, across town, across the state, across the galaxy.

13) Get a haircut. I'm not sure why this works, but it does.

14) Find a place to experience nature. It can be difficult in the dead of winter, so make a date to visit a botanical garden, a green house, garden supply center or a flower shop.

15) Make a Gratitude List. Top 5 Things You are Thankful For in This Moment. Go!

How do you get the juices flowing?

Party On,

It's Not Stupid

Everyone is talking New Years Resolutions--either touting impressive self improvement
manifestos or snarling about them being vapid doomed-to-failure bullshit.

Some of them have already withered on the vine. Others are well on their way.

[A few thoughts on resolutions:]

Firstly, for the haters, of course a bad plan with no intention of completion is going to implode.  That's not insight, that's Science. So, stop feeling so smug. Think something more interesting.

Secondly, for the Dreamers, don't let anyone tell you your resolutions are stupid. They might be lofty (or not), impractical or vaguley dangerous, but they're not stupid.

Haters, it's time to put on your ear muffs.

{Even if your resolutions don't make sense to anyone else, it's okay. It's no one's effing business but yours.}

Resolution makers, I like you. You're the kind of animal that realizes the world isn't actually shitting on you. You're the kind of animal that's going to take care of business and get happy the best way you know how.

You're going to be fine.

You probably smell nice, too.

Lastly, the tradition of New Years Day being a mass metamorphosis where we all emerge as weight loosing, vegan, girl scout Butterflies and flutter out into the cosmos can seem trite.

Okay, it is trite.

However, any moment that you decide to reflect on your life, put on some pants and make big kid decisions is a good moment.

We always say that we'll do it "later" when "we have more time", dependant on the delusion of dreamy future that consists of twenty-five hour days, and eight day weeks...

You don't get more time. This moment is a good moment.

So whether or not you have resolved to floss your dogs teeth every day or eat fifty pounds of raw almonds, I'm pulling for you.

Let's take care of business.
